After a wild animal attack leaves the boy injured, they use items from their suitcases to create a makeshift splint. They find help from a man who had been marooned in the jungle for eight years. With his guidance, they survive for several months, eventually turning the plane wreckage into a shelter. After sending up a smoke signal, they finally attract the attention of a plane and are rescued.

With nightfall closing in, Emily and Sophia began gathering leaves and branches to create a basic shelter. Jack, his leg scraped and bruised, sat by the remnants of a campfire they managed to start. Emily was focused, her practical overalls proving useful as she moved through the underbrush. 'This should be enough,' she said, dropping an armful of palm leaves. Sophia nodded, arranging the foliage into a makeshift tent. Jack tended to his injured leg, grimacing but trying to stay positive. 'Get away!' she shouted, waving the branch. Sophia stumbled back, shocked. The animal hesitated, then retreated into the darkness. Trembling, Jack looked up at Emily. The attack left Jack's leg in worse shape. Emily and Sophia knew they needed to help him fast. 'We'll make a splint,' Emily decided, rummaging through their scattered suitcases. Jack winced but managed a grateful smile. 'That's better,' he said, testing the splint. It wasn't perfect, but it would help him move. 'It has to work,' Sophia said, watching the smoke with hope. Emily and Jack stood beside her, their faces lit by the flames. They gazed upwards, willing a plane to see their signal.
